Attempting to pay off a debt inherited from his parents, Denji worked for the Yakuza as a Devil Hunter. He was ultimately betrayed by the Yakuza, who had him killed. However, his beloved chainsaw-powered devil-dog, Pochita made a deal with Denji, saving his life and creating the Chainsaw Man. In this arc, as there is a brutal war between Devils, hunters and secret enemies, a mysterious girl name Reze enters his life and he faces his deadliest battle yet.
