At the heart of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is a question about the kind of life Denji wants to live. A dangerous life chasing his dreams with Makima, or something quieter, simpler and seemingly more human with Reze.
But what if that choice was never real?
In this video, I explore Denji and Reze’s relationship through the country mouse / city mouse dilemma, the cinema date with Makima, Reze’s desire for an ordinary life, and the forces of fear and control that ultimately decide their fate.
Because beneath all the romance, violence and tragedy of the Reze Arc is a cruel contradiction:
you cannot freely choose how to live when your life has never belonged to you.
